BPR: KEY POINTS

Biocidal products are used to protect humans, animals, materials or articles against harmful organisms like pests or bacteria, by the action of the active substances contained in the biocidal product.

Since September 1st 2013, all biocidal products require an authorisation before they can be placed on the market, and the active substances contained in that biocidal product must be previously approved.

The procedures for placing a biocidal product on the market can be different  depending on the status of the active substance and the target market.

In order to choose the right procedure, it is important to understand and take into account the regulatory requirements of the BPR.

What is a biocidal product? What are the procedures to follow for putting a biocidal product on the market?
