SANITIZERS AND DISINFECTANTS

In the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global demand for hand sanitizers and disinfectants has risen sharply. Indeed, disinfecting hands and surfaces is a solution that can eliminate microorganisms including viruses and thus limit the spread of disease. These disinfection products are biocidal products and are subject to the Biocidal Products Regulation n° 528/2012 (BPR).

ECHA and WHO (World Health Organization) issued recommendations to increase the production of these disinfectants. In this context, several European countries have followed these recommendations and implemented exemptions under Article 55(1) of the Biocidal Products Regulation to simplify regulatory procedures and thus accelerate the placing on the market of these products. These derogations are temporary and still require country-specific notification.

In order to allow the greatest number of people to put disinfectant products on the market, we will present what derogations exist for certain European countries (France, Belgium, Germany, etc.).

Then we will focus on the steps to be taken to keep your product on the market at the end of the derogations.

What are the current derogations to put a disinfectant on the market quickly?
How can you keep your product on the market after the end of the derogations?
